The Matchbox Theatre is a well-established, highly-regarded amateur dramatic society largely made up of members of St Francis'. The group was started in 1981. We perform a wide variety of plays on the tiny stage in the church hall (hence the name) to an ever-increasing and appreciative audience - at Christmas, around Easter and in July. When rehearsing we meet on Sunday and Monday evenings (and occasionally Wednesday) at the hall.
The next production by St Francis own theatre company is the comedy 'A Bunch of Amateurs' by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman. This will be performed on 29th and 30th November and 1st December at 7.30pm in the church hall. A fading Hollywood action hero is drawn to England to play the title role in King Lear. While he believes he will be performing in a prestigious production in Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of the Bard, he arrives to find that he has been tricked by his agent, and is in fact starring with an amateur dramatic company in the tiny Suffolk village of Stratford St John. Tickets are available from the box office on 0845 680 4568 (local rate) or by email using the booking form found if you click here
